…from a sermon I heard
1. Deepen your relationship with God: There is a difference between being ‘deep’ and deepening ones relationship with God. To be deep almost means to be strange and weird. A deep person uses their religion to hide from themselves. They throw deep sounding ideologies around with little truth or conviction. To deepen is about relationship with God, where you are comfortable enough with God that you are completely honest in your dealings with him. To know that God knows who you really are regardless of faults and failures.
When you develop relationship skills with God, it helps how you relate with others. In the absence of a real relationship with God our other relationships with others become performance based. If you think God loves you because you pray or are good or whatever you would have the same mentality in relationships…“I like this person becos of such and such” or “This person likes me becos I’m such and such.” Since no relationship remains on the mountain tops, having a lasting relationship requires that your belief system is stable and does not fluctuate as ‘feelings’ do. You cannot love based on how you ‘feel’ today. If you ‘feel’ like you always have to be perfect before God there is no way you can have a deep relationship with God…cos you CanNot be perfect. When you get to a point where you can ‘come as you are’ before God…you find that you are not running around looking for someone to love you. You become confident about who you are and who God has called you to be. You cease to seek validation from man. Approach God like you would a new love interest-life partner…make time for him/go out of your way to get to know him/talk to him openly and earnestly. Your relationship with God as a single person should be deeper cos you have time on your hands as the bible says in Corinthians.
2. Seek a whole life as a single person: To be single doesn’t mean you are half of a person waiting on the other half of you. You are complete in and of yourself. A lot of single people are JUST WAITING!! Your life shouldn’t be on hold. People are attracted to people that are living. Develop interests, interests make you interesting—broaden your life. It is while you are out doing things that you meet new people [think- Ruth and Boaz].
3. Exercise your body and mind: This is the only house[body] you have. It is not about being a size 2. It is about being active. Exercise your mind—read about things, read any and everything so you are not intimidated when you others are discussing life issues. Read so that your mind stays sharp and active. Exercise your body so you stay sharp/agile and continue to feel attractive.
4. Avoid people who seek to control and silence your personality: Avoid people who wanna smother you. They are quick to give their opinions and get upset when you have a different one. People that always have something negative to say or some theory as to why you are single and how you must be doing something wrong. Do not allow yourself to be manipulated. Being single is not a death sentence.
5. Respect Marriage: When you know someone is married, don’t be all up in their face or business. Beware of boundaries. Respect marriage when you are single so that karma doesn’t bite you in the butt when you get married. However, DO NOT worship marriage cos it will not live up to your idea of it. This is for those sisters that think about the wedding but do not stop to think about the marriage. It is not a walk in the park ladies.
6. Live and budget within your means: When you are in debt it affects every area of your life. You should not be driven by what a potential/prospect has so that you are not making decisions based on extremities—Gold diggers beware!!
7. Set a Guard of your heart: Realize that you are important, of value and deserve the best. You know when your heart is getting carried away and only you can rein yourself back. We are admonished to ‘Guard our hearts with all diligence cos out of it flows rivers of life.’ The bible also talks about us being sober—it doesn’t just mean with ‘wine’ but with the things of this life. Ask God to help pull down things that make you jaded and open to things that will bring you joy.
8. Managing sexual appetite: This is an acquired behavior. For some it is a major struggle, for others not so much. If you have a large appetite then there are certain things you cannot do lest you get tempted. Know you limits, know your appetite. Managing it is work, it doesn’t just happen. Work at it.
9. Do not make decisions that complicate your life: Yes, you probably can live with a baby now but it sure will complicate your life. Keep life as a single person as simple and stress free as you possibly can.
10. Hmmm I guess I missed one point cos I only have 9…lol ah well…
You know what the cause of Great Attraction is? When someone sees something in you that you don’t see in yourself and you love the way they look at you. You want to be with this person [get with this person] cos you long to see what they see. Ultimately tho’ it is what you see in yourself that will elevate or demote you. It is how you feel about yourself that determines how most people will see you. “He” needs to feel like losing you will be detrimental to his life lol.
Look to the word—it is all in there. What God has named you, what he has called you to be. You don’t need someone to make you feel special. YOU ARE SPECIAL…know there will never be another YOU!!
…and there you have it, bloggy. Your very own Sunday sermon :D
Verse for the week:
Eph 3:20-21: Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
